$220,000 OTF Grant Contributes to the Success of Wawa’s Green Project
Wawa, ON – At the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Wawa Annual General Meeting on April 12, 2018, Michael Mantha, MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin, congratulated the EDC and the Municipality of Wawa on the successful Wawa Green Project which was generously supported by a $220,000 Grow grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
“I was quite excited to learn that the Wawa Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) was successful in their application for grant funding through the OTF Grow Grant program. It is wonderful to know that this community will be able to continue to add to its already successful list of initiatives,” said Michael Mantha, MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin. “This most recent funding award will ensure continued protection to our precious resources and will certainly benefit the residents of Wawa for the long-term. I offer my congratulations to the WEDC for on their great success in championing this outstanding project.”
“The Wawa Green Project would not have happened without the Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant and on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Economic Development Corporation of Wawa, I wish to express our gratitude and appreciation to the OTF for its support of the greening of Wawa. Through this project, the community benefited from programs that raised local awareness of ways to reduce energy costs, whether through the use of rain barrels, composters or using heat guns to identify heat leaks. The Wawa Green Project implemented the actions contained in the Wawa Energy Plan including the hiring of a Wawa Green Project Coordinator,” stated Maury O’Neill, Chief Executive Officer for the EDC of Wawa. “I thank Jessie Labonte and the Municipality of Wawa for supporting this project as well as the volunteers who contributed to its success.”
